Grand Valley Backyard is a true last-person-standing Backyard Ultra at the 18 Road trail system in Western Colorado. Every hour, runners line up together for another 4.17-mile loop. Finish within the hour and you earn the right to start again. Keep going until you can’t.
But this race isn’t only about being the last runner standing. Set your own goal — 1 lap, 50K, 50 miles, 100K, 100 miles, or simply farther than you’ve ever gone before.
Grand Valley may be a new race, but Ultraverse isn’t new to Backyards. This is our third Backyard Ultra in three different states, bringing years of experience with the format to Western Colorado.

Each lap will be 4.167 miles long, and you have 1 hour to complete each lap. It’s not just about the last person standing. It’s a great opportunity for you to test your limits, whether that’s 100 miles or one 4-mile loop.
Grand Valley Backyard takes place on a 4.17-mile loop at the 18 Road trail system in Western Colorado. The course is mostly singletrack with some doubletrack and absolutely no pavement.
Each loop has approximately 500 feet of elevation gain, with almost all of the climbing coming in the first half. The course is entirely runnable and non-technical.
FAST ENOUGH TO KEEP YOU COMING BACK. HARD ENOUGH TO MAKE EVERY LOOP COUNT.
Every hour, all remaining runners start a 4.17-mile loop together.
Finish the loop within the hour and you’re eligible to start the next one. Miss the cutoff or choose not to continue, and your race is over.
The race continues until only one runner completes a final loop.
SIMPLE RULES. NO PREDETERMINED FINISH LINE. JUST KEEP GOING.
You don’t have to be the last runner standing to accomplish something worth celebrating.
Every runner who completes at least one loop will earn a custom finisher buckle recognizing the distance they achieved. Your official UltraSignup result will also show your total mileage — not simply a DNF.
Runners will also receive a high-quality tri-blend race shirt, Ultraverse race sticker, and drawstring bag.
Water and Proxima C Endurance Fuel will be provided throughout the race.
Runners are responsible for bringing any additional food, nutrition, and supplies they may need. There will be plenty of space around the start/finish area for personal race setups.
Crew is welcome and encouraged. Please limit your crew to no more than 3 people.
Each runner may use up to a 10′ x 10′ space near the start/finish area for their personal setup. Pop-up canopies up to 10′ x 10′ are allowed and must be securely staked or weighted down.
We are a cupless race company, so please bring your own refillable cup.
